About The Position

The Plant Hygienist is responsible for ensuring the implementation of cleaning and sanitization processes within the manufacturing and packaging departments. This role involves verifying cleaning, sanitization, and work practices from a contamination risk perspective. The hygienist will also oversee equipment design and maintenance, raw material storage and handling, and the general cleanliness of the work environment, ensuring good personnel work practices are followed. The position aims to foster a culture of aseptic technique, good hygiene, and micro risk awareness across the site.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Biology, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant industry experience
  • Experience with manufacturing, filling and packaging of liquid products
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
  • Understanding of clean design requirements, cleaning/sanitization principles, and micro contamination risk
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Ability to influence across all levels of the organization
  • Relentless drive to continuously improve cleaning and sanitization procedures, and the execution of those procedures, to reduce the risk of micro contamination

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of cleaning and sanitization processes.
  • Verify cleaning, sanitization, and work practices in manufacturing and packaging departments to mitigate contamination risk.
  • Verify equipment design and maintenance, raw material storage and handling, and work environment cleanliness.
  • Ensure good personnel work practices.
  • Create a culture of aseptic technique, good hygiene practices, and micro risk awareness with site personnel.
  • Partner with outside cleaning chemical vendors to manage the site Cleaning Improvement Masterplan.
  • Supervise CIP and COP changeovers.
  • Author and revise site Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for cleaning and sanitization.
  • Direct housekeeping and cleaning programs.
  • Qualify and regularly audit the effectiveness of cleaning and sanitization procedures.
  • Conduct staff training on site cleaning and sanitization procedures.
  • Perform daily audits of manufacturing and production areas to identify micro risk areas, clean design defects, and proper adherence to C&S procedures.
  • Oversee regular teardown and “super” cleaning of equipment, updating procedures as necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cleaning and sanitization efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead Micro Risk Awareness (MRA) audits with key customers.
  • Adhere to Environmental, Occupational, Health, and Safety requirements.
  • Adhere to Quality, Good Manufacturing practices, and micro cleaning and sanitization standards and guidelines.
  • Manage Biofilm elimination and associated metrics.
  • Oversee the plant SWAT team to maintain plant hygiene.
  • Lead and execute validations related to cleaning processes.
  • Lead and execute investigations related to Micro contaminations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
