This position performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of water treatment plants, raw water intake pump stations, potable water pump stations, elevated and ground storage tanks, lakes, dams, the chlorine dioxide disinfection facility, and a scalping station. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure safe, efficient water production operations. The role involves performing general maintenance tasks such as carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, and painting. It also includes lubricating and performing preventive maintenance on motors and equipment, operating a city vehicle for daily travel to various water facilities, and maintaining safe work sites. Basic computer operations, mowing, and grounds maintenance are also part of the duties. The role requires the use of hand tools, specialized tools, welding equipment, and electrical test instruments. Specific duties for higher levels include maintaining clarifiers, chlorinators, and chlorine dioxide generators, repairing pumps, motors, valves, and chemical feed systems, performing minor electrical troubleshooting, and adding/removing columns on vertical turbine pumps. The highest level involves disassembling/reassembling pumps, maintaining Risk Management records for chlorine systems, training staff, providing advanced troubleshooting, and working on electrical systems without supervision.
