About The Position

The Plant Engineering Supervisor role supports ongoing Lonza operations by providing technical leadership as it relates to manufacturing and process systems. The role acts as a technical resource to operations customers to ensure that equipment and facilities are designed, operated, and maintained to meet production needs. Responsibilities of the role include implementation of engineering projects to support manufacturing requirements and direct day-to-day oversight of plant engineers within an engineering team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline is required
  • 5-10 years of biotech industry experience.
  • A good understanding of design principles and standards within manufacturing facilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects (3-5) simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively communicate via writing and oral communication at all levels to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external teams or those outside formal line of authority (e.g. peers, senior managers) to accomplish project goals.
  • Able to shift priorities based on company needs and able to multitask on multiple projects.
  • The capacity to motivate and encourage others in the achievement of specific objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to resolve major breakdowns, conduct technical data analyses, and support technology transfers.
  • Assign and prioritize work for direct reports (4-7 engineers), conduct performance reviews, guide technical challenges, and manage engineering contractors.
  • Plan and lead complex equipment/process improvements, and execute commissioning protocols (e.g., IQ/OQ, CIP/SIP).
  • Participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and deviation investigations, perform engineering reviews for deviations, and execute Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) tasks.
  • Author and assess change requests and perform lot assessments required to support successful process changes and lot release.
  • Initiate Engineering Document Change Requests (EDCRs) and author/review commissioning protocols, batch records, and SOPs resulting from CAPA initiatives.
  • Stay current on all regulatory and departmental training requirements (e.g., ComplianceWire, SAP Learning Portal) and act as a qualified departmental trainer.
