About The Position
Otter Tail Power is seeking a Plant Engineer to join their Big Stone Plant team. This role supports the mission to deliver reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity by helping to maintain and improve plant operations and efficiencies. The company is open to hiring at the Engineer I, Engineer II, or Engineer III levels, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
- Understanding of engineering standards and safety protocols (Engineer I)
- Reliable work performance; seeks guidance and feedback (Engineer I)
- Effective communicator; learns to manage small tasks under supervision (Engineer I)
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience (Engineer II)
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage engineering projects and tasks (Engineer II)
- Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders (Engineer II)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience (Engineer III)
- In-depth knowledge of materials, construction standards, protection schemes, and safety regulations (Engineer III)
- Experience communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders (Engineer III)
- Strong communication skills delivering complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders; acts as a role model for junior engineers (Engineer III)
- Ability to work in variable conditions; role may be physical at times
- Valid driver’s license required
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and American Society of Civil Engineers standards is a plus
Responsibilities
- Manage plant improvement projects, including thermal performance engineering
- Advise other departments to reduce operating costs and increase plant availability
