About The Position
Otter Tail Power is seeking a Plant Engineer to join our Big Stone Plant team. We are open to hiring at Engineer I, Engineer II, or Engineer III levels, depending on candidate qualifications and experience. In this role, you’ll help maintain and improve plant operations and efficiencies, supporting our mission to deliver reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
- Engineer I: Understanding of engineering standards and safety protocols
- Engineer I: Reliable work performance; seeks guidance and feedback
- Engineer I: Effective communicator; learns to manage small tasks under supervision
- Engineer II: Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience
- Engineer II: Demonstrated ability to independently manage engineering projects and tasks
- Engineer II: Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Engineer III: Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience
- Engineer III: In-depth knowledge of materials, construction standards, protection schemes, and safety regulations
- Engineer III: Experience communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Engineer III: Strong communication skills delivering complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders; acts as a role model for junior engineers
- Valid driver’s license required
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and American Society of Civil Engineers standards is a plus
Responsibilities
- Manage plant improvement projects, including thermal performance engineering
- Advise other departments to reduce operating costs and increase plant availability
