About The Position

Under the direction of the Community Development Director, the Permit Technician performs a wide variety of professional administrative and analytical duties. This position performs specialized customer service and administrative work to support the permit and plan review work of the Community Development Department.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of computer skills in operating Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of word processing
  • Knowledge of basic spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of procedures related to the processing of land use permit applications.
  • Knowledge of common construction practices and basic administration of building codes
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Typing certified at 30 wpm, transcribing, and maintain various records and files in preparing and processing records for long term storage.
  • Skill in being well organized.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Professional telephone demeanor and superb organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Performs varied and increasingly responsible technical work involved in the acceptance of applications, review, processing, and issuance of all types of permits and licenses issued by the Department.
  • Reviews application packets to ensure that all necessary documents are included in the submittals.
  • Routes permits and other applications to correct persons for review.
  • Collects and assembles data and background materials for reports and special projects.
  • Assembles the comments of the plan reviewers and communicates with applicants.
  • Keeps records of all land use applications and prepares reports regarding the application status of all type of applications.
  • Performs construction plan reviews on simple projects at the direction of the Building Official.
  • Oversees the clerical aspects of the plat recording process.
  • Assists the Engineering Division with the land use review process.
  • Assists the City Planner and Building Official with coordination of any outsourced plan review, inspections, or other services.
  • Collects data and creates reports on key performance indicators for the department.
  • Insures proper filing and logging of plans, and related documents for the permanent record.
  • Performs reception functions; answers telephone calls and greets visitors.
  • Provides a variety of administrative duties in support of the Department.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with public and co-workers.
