This is a specialized and supportive full-time, hourly position that reports to the Senior Planning Coordinator or designee. The position entails advanced clerical work and technical support processing applications for development permits and other associated services provided by the Department. Essential Job Functions Phone, email and in-person correspondence with prospective property owners, County constituents, and contractors to provide information and guidance on application submittal and development requirements. Correspondence is expected in a timely manner. Receive and review for accuracy, completeness and document all applications and request for services to the Department. Responsible for receiving and performing a sufficiency review of all applications and request for services received through the Department’s front counter and online permit portal. Answers questions related to land development codes, comprehensive plan, application requirements and processes. Research and issue Lot Inquiry Letters, Zoning and Land Use Verification Letters, Walk-Thru Permits, Residential Site Plan review, Inspection Requests, Power Connects, fulfilling Public Records requests, and other over-the-counter services provided by the Division. Reviews of other Administrative Planning and Zoning applications for approvals. Accept monies for permits and services as required by County Resolution. Accurately receipt transaction and account for individual daily activities at end of workday. Review all applications for accuracy, required approvals, collection of fees, and completeness prior to issuing permits. Perform daily tasks, filing, copying, restocking, office and file maintenance, permit upgrades, licensing, and other duties as assigned or as directed by the Senior Planning Coordinator or Office Administrator. This includes faxes, emails, phone calls, walk-ins, and all other duties necessary to accomplish the Department’s responsibilities. Coordinate with co-workers and management all annual leave, lunch breaks, morning and afternoon breaks, start and finish times to ensure adequate counter and phone coverage during all business hours. Participation in mentoring, cross-training, personal development and skill enhancement necessary to successfully accomplish the Department’s responsibilities and services. Undertake research; prepare reports, maps, briefs and a variety of documents as directed. Review plans for compliance with County land development regulations. Provide customer service to residents, contractors, vendors, developers and others seeking assistance with application and review processes and understanding Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan and other inquiries related to assigned responsibilities. The Permit and Planning Technician must have the skills and abilities to provide services, information, and guidance to the customer to ensure a successful and pleasant experience. The Permit and Planning Technician is responsible for requesting information or assistance from any Department staff as necessary to accomplish the assignment. May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.
