About The Position

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is responsible for sustaining the interests of Albertans through the stewardship and responsible development of energy and mineral resource systems. The Ministry Services Division provides enterprise-wide support services for the Department of Energy and ensures alignment with and adherence to related Government of Alberta-wide policy and direction. The Business Services Branch provides legislative planning and reporting, coordination of the department’s policy, legislation and agency governance files, coordination of the red tape reduction initiative for the department, and facilities and accommodations services. The Business Planning Unit in the Business Services Branch helps keep the ministry’s planning, reporting, and performance on track. The team supports key legislative processes like strategic planning and reporting for the Government of Alberta, the Deputy Minister’s Performance Agreement, enterprise risk management, and performance measurement and evaluation. They also help coordinate operational planning and related activities across the ministry. In addition, the unit plays an important role in supporting the ministry’s work with the Committee of Supply and Public Accounts Committee. The unit is also responsible for continuity planning to help ensure the department can keep running smoothly through disruptions. We are looking for two Planning & Performance Analyst to join our Business Services team. In this role, you will contribute to business planning, performance reporting, and strategic initiatives that support effective decision-making and accountability across the organization. Reporting to the Manager, Business Planning, you will be part of a dynamic team supporting key ministry planning, reporting, and accountability processes. This includes everything from annual reporting and performance measurement to legislative committee preparation and enterprise planning. You’ll be part of a team that plays a central role in how the ministry plans, measures, and communicates its results. Your work will directly support transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making at the highest levels.

Requirements

  • University graduation in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Political Science or a related field , supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years of related experience in business planning and performance management
  • A flexible, adaptable approach, with the ability to shift priorities and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise messaging.
  • Excellent relationship-building and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of government planning and reporting processes is an asset.
  • Preference would be candidate with project management certification.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, governance, or policy frameworks.
  • Experience in data analysis, research, and preparing reports or briefing materials.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and coordination of annual reports, ensuring clear, accurate, and meaningful communication of organizational results.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and summarize data and reporting inputs.
  • Monitor and maintain performance measures, ensuring data quality, consistency, and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Provide analysis, insights, and recommendations to support planning, reporting, and decision-making processes.
  • Assist in preparing briefing materials and reports for senior leadership and key meetings.
  • Contribute to special projects, research initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts across planning and performance functions.
