About The Position

At Logan Simpson, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your skillset, while bringing new tools and ideas to the table. The Opportunity: We have an opening for a temporary part-time or full-time Planning Intern during the Summer 2026 based out of our downtown Fort Collins, Colorado office.

Requirements

  • Some experience and basic knowledge of community planning principles and practices, including land use planning and land development codes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Design, or a closely related field.
  • Be able to work cooperatively in a positive team-oriented setting.
  • Ability to work in the office 3 days per week on average, as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Urban Design, Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of demonstrable experience in a related role (internships qualify).
  • Experience at a design or planning consulting firm, or in a municipal planning department.
  • Detailed experience in key plan components (for example, housing, recreation, water).
  • Experience in physical land use planning and design at a range of scales and levels of detail.
  • Experience working with social media and website content.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD, with example mapping and graphics products.
  • Self-starters with an eye for detail, a dedication to accuracy, and a passion for not just incorporating best practices, but identifying and testing new planning ideas, practices, and technologies are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planning research and documentation.
  • Support preparation of comprehensive and general plans, land development and zoning codes, specific area plans, and other long-range planning projects.
  • Create graphics and document layouts for plans, reports, and outreach materials.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and summarize outreach activities.
  • Support preparation of materials and logistics for public meetings and events.
  • Assist project managers and senior staff with a variety of planning and design tasks.
  • Attend occasional evening meetings and public events, with possible out-of-state travel for project site visits and public events.
