About The Position

This position is open on a continuous basis. The first review of applications will begin the week of September 21, 2026, with subsequent reviews conducted weekly. Positions assigned to this class are responsible for planning, scheduling activities, and providing updates in support of the Town's planning projects. This is the entry level professional classification in the planning job family. This is the first professional level classification in a career progression in the planning series. Demonstrates specific knowledge and follows established practices and processes. Work is designed to provide initial experience and training in an assignment requiring previous formal learning or equivalent training. Work is performed under the supervision of a more senior professional.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or a related field
  • 2 years of planning experience
  • Knowledge of Urban planning principles, methods and practices
  • Knowledge of Applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of Standard office equipment including the computer and programs relevant to the performance of applicable duties and responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Customer service principles and practices
  • Skills in Giving public presentations
  • Skills in Applying modern urban planning principles and practices
  • Skills in Managing assigned projects and programs
  • Skills in Resolving conflict
  • Skills in Analyzing data, drawing logical conclusions and make sound decisions and recommendations based on findings
  • Skills in Interpreting, applying and explaining applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations
  • Skills in Using computers and related software applications
  • Skills in Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews planning projects and building permits for conformance with design standards and adherence to codes and ordinances; compiles reviewer comments; prepares disposition letters to applicants.
  • Provides customer service to residents and applicants regarding zoning information, design information, miscellaneous issues, and related items.
  • Leads technical review committee meetings for assigned projects; assists in scheduling neighborhood meetings.
  • Reviews new and renewing business licenses.
  • Prepares and presents planning project reports to various boards, commissions and leadership.
  • Performs field inspections.
  • Serves as project manager for the receipt, coordination and dissemination of information.
  • Researches planning related inquiries and fulfills related public record requests.
  • Updates planning website.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Benefits

  • The Town contributes 6.2% of eligible compensation to the plan, while employees are required to contribute 1.3% of eligible compensation.
