About The Position

MainePERS is seeking a Plan Administration Associate to support the administration of our Defined Benefit (DB), Deferred Compensation, and Defined Contribution (DC) Programs, including the PLD and MaineSTART Plans. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys researching, problem-solving, working with people, and ensuring the details are right. In this role, you'll serve as a resource to members, employers, and staff by answering questions, interpreting plan provisions, determining eligibility, and ensuring retirement plan transactions and documentation are accurate and compliant.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of responsible, self-directed work experience that demonstrates excellent customer service, research, and analysis, computational, computer skills and the ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Ability to travel within the state; valid driver’s license and maintenance of a good driving record.
  • Enjoys helping people and solving problems.
  • Can research information, interpret policies and plan provisions, and apply them accurately.
  • Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in accurate, timely work.
  • Can manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with members, employers, and colleagues.
  • Can work independently while knowing when to seek guidance on complex issues.
  • Is comfortable learning and using computer systems and administrative tools.
  • Represents MainePERS professionally when working with members, employers, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Research and respond to member and employer inquiries regarding plan provisions, participation, eligibility, and distributions.
  • Determine eligibility for plan participation and distributions and process rollovers and other plan transactions.
  • Review and maintain plan documentation to ensure it is accurate, complete, compliant, and properly recorded.
  • Serve as a resource to staff, members, and employers by interpreting plan provisions and providing accurate information.
  • Maintain daily plan administration operations in the absence of the Plan Administrator.
  • Prepare documentation and materials for current and prospective PLD employers.
  • Coordinate employer and member meetings for the Plan Administrator, ensuring information and materials are prepared in advance.
  • Represent MainePERS at benefit fairs, conferences, and other outreach events.
  • Use system software and related tools to complete work accurately, efficiently, and within established timeframes.
