About The Position

The Pipelayer - Wet Utility installs sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems. The position involves preparing trenches and pipes, positioning and connecting pipeline sections, checking grades and slopes, and covering completed pipes. The employee must follow job-site safety practices and perform manual labor in varied environments and conditions. Pay is based on experience and certifications.

Requirements

Ability to access secured facilities.
Ability to operate large excavators with precision.
High attention to detail.
Physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
Able to sit and stand regularly; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and verbally communicate and listen.
Able to walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Vision abilities include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Ensure job site safety.
Ensure proper excavation and compaction procedures are performed.
Install sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
Cut pipes to required lengths.
Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction.
Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement, fittings, or glue.
Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
Grade and level trench bases using tamping machines and hand tools.
Train others in pipe-laying techniques.
