About The Position

Perform entry level general pipefitting fabrication and installation duties with supervision. This role involves progressing through four apprentice levels (Apprentice 1-4) over a 48-month period, with increasing responsibilities and skill development at each stage. The apprentice will gain experience in various aspects of HVAC systems, including fabrication, installation, blueprint reading, and problem-solving, while also performing general labor tasks. The position requires regular attendance, adherence to safety policies, and completion of training classes.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school graduate/GED
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to learn through on the job training and technical school courses
  • Reliable transportation to and from work required
  • Basic math skills
  • Can document approximately 2,000 hours of employment (Apprentice 1)
  • Can document approximately 4,000 hours of employment (Apprentice 2)
  • Can document approximately 6,000 hours of employment (Apprentice 3)
  • Can document 8,000 hours of employment (Apprentice 4)
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and 75+ pounds occasionally
  • Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment up to 50 pounds regularly and 75+ pounds occasionally to complete assigned job tasks
  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Be able to reach overhead, including working with tools overhead
  • Be able to work a full range of physical activity in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, kneeling and squatting, climbing, walking for extended periods of time.
  • Use hands and arms to: Thread, cut, weld, braze, solder, and assemble pipe and duct work
  • Use hands and arms to: Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other equipment
  • Capable of hearing at a level or correctable to a level where the person is able to receive detailed information through verbal communication. Must be able to detect alarms and equipment sounds
  • Vision must also be at a level or correctable level where the person has clarity both in short and long-distance vision
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Handle heavy pipe, fittings, valves, tools, duct, hangers, and equipment
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs regularly
  • Work and walking on uneven surfaces, elevated platforms, and confined areas at times

Nice To Haves

  • Travel outside of Eagle may be necessary to respond to customer requests in areas such as Vail, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Rifle, and Grand Junction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry level general pipefitting fabrication and installation duties with supervision.
  • Operate ductline and understand all machinery.
  • Understand terminology, prep ductwork for installation, and properly use basic hand tools.
  • Attend all MTech Mechanical Apprenticeship training classes regularly and outside schooling if available.
  • Develop good housekeeping and safety habits.
  • Understand and be responsible for accurate material checkout from warehouse and labor accounting.
  • Follow instructions and maintain a positive attitude toward leadman, fellow employees, and customers.
  • Document approximately 2,000 hours of employment for Apprentice 1.
  • Perform laborer tasks including sweeping, cleaning, delivering, loading, unloading, and hole cutting.
  • Read non-complex blueprints and detail shop orders from prints and onsite measurements (Apprentice 2).
  • Install HVAC systems with minor supervision (Apprentice 2).
  • Set up and operate all job-related tools safely (Apprentice 2).
  • Fabricate duct and simple fittings (Apprentice 2).
  • Understand the fundamentals of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (Apprentice 2).
  • Flat solder copper and galvanized joints, properly waterseal duct joints and OSM joints (Apprentice 2).
  • Have fundamental knowledge of fibrous duct installations (Apprentice 2).
  • Help solve installation problems (Apprentice 2).
  • Document approximately 4,000 hours of employment (Apprentice 2).
  • Do all types of small jobs alone with supervision including add-on air conditioning, furnace change-outs, humidifiers, and air cleaners (Apprentice 3).
  • Install all types of normal residential, commercial, industrial HVAC systems with supervision (Apprentice 3).
  • Impart trade knowledge to and lead a helper (Apprentice 3).
  • Coordinate work with customer and other trades (Apprentice 3).
  • Install outside metal (Apprentice 3).
  • Weld light gauge sheet and lightweight angle iron frames (Apprentice 3).
  • Complete jobs successfully in terms of labor and material budgets (Apprentice 3).
  • Document approximately 6,000 hours of employment (Apprentice 3).
  • Apply for certification at local jurisdictions as required (Apprentice 4).
  • Know fundamental design and successfully complete all jobs as per MTech Mechanical standards (Apprentice 4).
  • Document 8,000 hours of employment (Apprentice 4).
  • Support the total quality effort and identify/respond to customer needs (Apprentice 4).
  • Work within the guidelines of the safety and employee policy (Apprentice 4).
  • Upon graduation, obtain Denver Journeyman Heating and Ventilating Certificate (Apprentice 4).
  • Other duties as assigned.
