About The Position

Responsible for executing helper duties to assist the assigned crew. The role involves reading blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work, including locations and required quantities and sizes of materials, and assisting with laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting fabricated structural metal parts. The helper also sets up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures; marks centerlines and reference points; and positions or tightens supports and other equipment to hold parts in place for welding or riveting. Additional responsibilities may be required.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the industrial construction or maintenance industry.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work, including work locations and the quantities and sizes of required materials.
• Lay out, position, align, and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products.
• Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.
• Locate and mark centerlines and reference points on the floor or face block, then transfer them to the workpiece using tape, chains, a plumb bob, and squares.
• Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps to hold parts in position for welding or riveting.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.
