About The Position

The Pipefitter Helper assists pipefitters with installation, maintenance, and testing of process piping and utility systems. The role involves handling and using pipefitting tools, cutting and assembling pipes, installing pipe supports and fittings, and helping move and position materials. The employee maintains tools and equipment and keeps the work environment clean and safe while following safety procedures, including those related to fall protection and scaffold assessment.

Requirements

Typically requires a minimum of 6 months of industrial construction experience.
Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain while carrying tools and building materials.
Ability to climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
Dexterity and safe use of hand tools.
Ability to safely operate power tools and equipment.
Understanding of personal fall arrest systems and ability to assess scaffolds.

Responsibilities

Communicate with pipefitters and others to perform job tasks.
Assist with installation, maintenance, and testing of process piping and utility systems.
Cut, grind, and assemble pipes using pipefitting tools and equipment.
Thread pipe using a threading machine.
Mount pipe hangers and supports from structural steel.
Assemble and install metal and nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, including brass, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and plastics.
Join piping using threaded or cemented joints.
Secure pipe to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools.
Unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and workpieces during installation.
Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Safely use hand tools, power tools, and equipment, and adhere to safety procedures.
Understand the use of personal fall arrest systems and assess scaffolds.
