The Pipe / Mechanical Lead Superintendent is responsible for field leadership and execution of all piping and mechanical construction activities for the Corpus Christi Desalination Plant. This role oversees day to day field operations related to mechanical systems, piping, and equipment installation, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, in accordance with design documents, and in compliance with project schedule and quality requirements. The Lead Superintendent serves as the primary on site authority for piping and mechanical scopes, coordinating construction crews, subcontractors, and field engineers while closely interfacing with Engineering, Procurement, Commissioning, and Operations teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or trade education in mechanical, piping, or industrial construction preferred.
  • Proven experience in industrial or water infrastructure construction, with significant experience in: Mechanical and piping installation, Process plants, water/wastewater, or desalination facilities.
  • Prior experience as a Lead Superintendent or General Superintendent on large EPC or design‑build projects preferred.
  • Experience managing large trade crews and multiple subcontractors simultaneously.
  • Strong field leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Deep knowledge of piping and mechanical construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Safety‑driven and quality‑focused mindset.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications on OSHA 30 and NCCER, welding, rigging, or mechanical certifications highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate piping and mechanical construction effort.
  • Conduct constructability assessments during the initial design stage.
  • Lead and coordinate all piping and mechanical construction activities, including erection, installation, alignment, and testing.
  • Supervise field crews, subcontractors, and specialty trades performing mechanical and piping work.
  • Plan and execute work sequencing, manpower loading, and daily work activities to support the project schedule.
  • Ensure work aligns with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and ITPs.
  • Oversee installation of: Process and utility piping systems, Pumps, pressure vessels, energy recovery devices, and rotating equipment, Valves, supports, pipe racks, and mechanical skids, Chemical storage and dosing systems.
  • Verify proper installation, alignment, flushing, pressure testing, and mechanical completion.
  • Coordinate piping tie‑ins, system turnovers, and punch‑list resolution.
  • Enforce project HSE policies and ensure safe execution of all mechanical and piping activities.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.
  • Ensure construction quality standards are met through inspections, testing, and documentation.
  • Support audits, inspections, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensures proper estimation of installation costs.
  • Early engagement in Design Reviews for constructability and optimization.
  • Proactive coordination of supply chain management and pre-assembly strategies.
  • Interface daily with Engineering and the Mechanical Processes Technical Lead to resolve field design issues, constructability concerns, and RFIs.
  • Coordinate delivery, staging, and installation of mechanical equipment and piping materials.
  • Support review and implementation of approved engineering changes in the field.
  • Track daily progress, manpower, quantities installed, and productivity metrics.
  • Support schedule updates, look‑ahead planning, and constraint removal.
  • Assist in quantity tracking, progress measurement, and substantiation of pay items.
  • Support resolution of field issues affecting schedule, cost, or quality.
  • Support mechanical completion activities, MC walkdowns, and system turnovers.
  • Assist commissioning and start‑up teams with testing, flushing, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure proper handover of mechanical systems, as‑built documentation, and turnover packages.
