PIPE LAYER
About The Position
The Pipe Layer installs underground piping that connects buildings and building sites to water supplies, sewers, and stormwater management systems. The position requires knowledge of excavation, pipe alignment, establishing and maintaining proper grade, joining pipes, and backfill procedures. Typical schedules are Monday through Friday, with weekend work required as needed. Local travel may be needed for business. The role requires excellent attendance and communication skills, the ability to build lasting business relationships, and professionalism. Duties may change according to job requirements and site needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma and/or one year of pipelaying experience in a construction environment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance before working at secured locations; failure to obtain or maintain the required clearance may result in withdrawal of an offer.
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to walk or stand without rest periods for up to 2.5 hours.
- Ability to work outside all day in heat, cold, rain, and other elements.
- Ability to repeatedly bend, stoop, kneel, lift, climb, dig, shovel, and sweep.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in civil utilities.
Responsibilities
- Read site plans and use pipe and grade lasers.
- Cut, fit, and lay underground piping.
- Dig, shovel, and perform trenchwork.
- Assist laborers when not laying pipe, including sweeping, climbing ladders up to 25 feet, hand mixing materials, and loading and unloading materials.
- Operate power tools and equipment.
- Work on elevated platforms.
- Lift and pull up to 50 pounds unassisted.
