About The Position

The Pipe Layer is responsible for the installation of water, sewer, and storm drainage systems on construction projects. This role involves working closely with the pipe crew, equipment operators, and site supervisors to ensure pipes are correctly positioned, aligned, and connected according to project specifications. The Pipe Layer must have knowledge of pipe materials, trenching methods, and safety regulations to execute projects safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in pipe laying, utility installation, or a related field.
  • Understanding of grading, trenching, pipe types, and installation techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of pipe materials, fittings, and sealing methods.
  • Proficiency in using levels, lasers, and measuring tools for proper alignment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Constant physical effort, including standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods during an 8+ hour shift.
  • Ability to lift 50–90 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
  • Work in trenches, confined spaces, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and trench boxes as needed.
  • Maintain constant awareness of job site activities and moving equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install water, sewer, and storm drainage pipes following blueprints and specifications.
  • Set, align, and grade pipe sections using levels, lasers, and measuring tools.
  • Assist with trenching, shoring, and excavation to ensure proper pipe placement.
  • Cut and fit pipes to required lengths and configurations.
  • Ensure proper sealing and connection of pipes using gaskets, couplings, and other materials.
  • Follow OSHA regulations and company safety protocols.
  • Maintain situational awareness around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Ensure trenches are properly shored, benched, or sloped to prevent cave-ins.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety best practices.
  • Work closely with foremen, equipment operators, and laborers to complete projects efficiently.
  • Interpret construction plans, blueprints, and site layouts to ensure accurate installation.
  • Communicate any issues or adjustments needed to supervisors.
  • Assist with general job site duties as needed, including cleanup and material handling.
