Pipe Fitter Helper
About The Position
The Pipe Fitter Helper assists pipefitters with work requiring less skill, including supplying or holding materials and tools and cleaning work areas and equipment. The role supports the layout, assembly, installation, repair, and removal of piping and related fixtures and systems on construction sites. This is a physically demanding position on active construction sites. Employees regularly work outdoors and may encounter varied weather, heavy equipment and construction traffic, noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and potential electrical hazards. The role requires consistently wearing required personal protective equipment and following Clark Construction safety policies and applicable laws. The work may involve extended hours during critical project phases or client deadlines. A pre-employment drug fitness-for-duty screening and random quarterly drug fitness-for-duty tests are required. Requirements
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds alone and use team-lifting techniques for heavier items; the description also notes that loads may sometimes be up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and to bend, climb, kneel, reach, crouch, stoop, crawl, stretch, and work in awkward positions.
- Strength, balance, dexterity, and ability to work safely at various heights and in tight spaces.
- Visual acuity to operate equipment and spot hazards, and ability to hear instructions in noisy environments, with or without assistance.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and construction traffic and to consistently wear required personal protective equipment.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, especially during critical project phases or client deadlines.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug fitness-for-duty screening; the company also conducts random quarterly drug fitness-for-duty tests.
Responsibilities
- Measure, cut, thread, and assemble new pipe, and place assembled pipe in hangers or other supports.
- Cut or drill holes in walls or floors to accommodate pipes.
- Perform rough-ins; repair and replace fixtures and water heaters; and locate, repair, or remove leaking or broken pipes.
- Assist pipefitters with the layout, assembly, and installation of piping for air, ammonia, gas, and water systems.
- Cut pipe and lift it to fitters.
- Fit or assist in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems using hand tools.
- Requisition tools and equipment; select pipe types and sizes; and collect and transport materials and equipment to work sites.
- Mount brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipes, and set sleeves or inserts to support pipes.
- Excavate and grade ditches and lay and join pipe for water and sewer service.
- Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe.
- Supply or hold materials and tools, and clean work areas and equipment.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and follow Clark Construction safety policies and applicable laws.
