New York Pilates Instructor (Mat)
About The Position
Puppy Sphere is hiring a New York-based contractor to lead beginner–intermediate mat Pilates classes. The role focuses on delivering structured, fitness-first workouts and creating a welcoming, elevated studio experience. Each 60-minute Puppy Pilates class consists of a 40-minute instructor-led mat Pilates workout without puppies, followed by a 20-minute puppy social for guests. Instructors deliver multiple classes during a scheduled session, typically up to four per day. They should arrive approximately 15 minutes before their first class and return approximately 15 minutes before each subsequent class; instructors may leave the studio between classes. Class times may vary slightly, with advance notice provided wherever possible. Resistance bands and weighted balls are available for optional use. Compensation is $55 USD per 40-minute class.
Requirements
- Certified Mat Pilates Instructor; applicants must provide a valid copy of their Pilates certification(s).
- Valid Professional Liability Insurance covering fitness instruction.
- Availability to teach on weekends and weekdays, including Saturday and/or Sunday and/or Thursday.
- Availability to deliver a full scheduled day, typically up to four classes.
- Ability to confidently teach beginner–intermediate classes with clear structure and progression.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear cueing and the ability to support a range of fitness levels.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, alignment, and injury prevention.
- Comfort around dogs and ability to support a puppy-inclusive environment calmly and professionally.
Nice To Haves
- Certification from a recognized Pilates training provider.
- Experience teaching group mat Pilates classes, ideally in a boutique fitness or studio environment.
- Experience working in fast-paced, customer-facing environments.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging 40-minute mat Pilates classes focused on strength, control, and full-body toning.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating environment that encourages guest participation.
- Structure classes according to Puppy Sphere’s format and experience guidelines: warm-up, sculpt, peak burn, and cooldown.
- Provide clear cueing, guidance, and modifications for guests with different fitness levels.
- Introduce each class by explaining its structure, equipment use, and what guests can expect.
- Communicate confidently throughout each session to guide guests and maintain a smooth, well-paced class.
- Maintain energy, flow, and engagement throughout the class.
- Monitor the studio environment and uphold Puppy Sphere’s experience standards and puppy welfare guidelines.
- Collaborate with on-site staff to support a seamless guest experience while keeping the focus on instruction.
- Foster community and encourage repeat attendance.
- Share feedback on class flow, guest experience, and overall delivery to support ongoing development of the Puppy Pilates offering.
- Follow Puppy Sphere’s brand, experience, puppy welfare, and studio guidelines.
