About The Position

Grandview Kids provides an array of specialized programs, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinical treatments to children and youth with physical, communication, and developmental needs. Programs and services – which are delivered at the Centre, in the community, at schools, and in-home – include: medical consultation, assessment, and diagnosis; audiology, autism support; complex care program; occupational therapy; physiotherapy; respite services; social work; speech-language pathology; therapeutic recreation; and family engagement. Grandview Kids actively participates in research to support innovation in rehabilitation science, to advance organizational capabilities, and to better serve caregivers and the developmental needs of their children and adolescents. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Registration with College of Physiotherapists
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related (paediatric) clinical setting
  • Knowledge of physiotherapy assessment and treatment principles related to paediatrics
  • Knowledge of equipment and standardized tests
  • Specialized knowledge of paediatric disabilities (e.g. Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder).
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis an asset
  • ADP Authorizer or eligible preferred
  • Well-developed communication skills including verbal, non-verbal, listening, negotiation, presentation, listening skills
  • Strong consultation and conceptual analysis skills
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to set priorities and time management
  • Ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle, or access to reliable/appropriate transportation.
  • You are a superior communicator, both written and verbal with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • You possess excellent interpersonal skills, and work effectively with families, all levels of staff, and related community agencies and ensure continuity of care.

Responsibilities

  • Completes an assessment of clients referred to the physiotherapy service and identifies problem areas by obtaining history and other pertinent data and reviewing medical records; assessing the client in terms of their activities of daily living skills, range of motion, neurodevelopmental status, muscle tone, gross motor function, sensation, strength, mobility, equipment needs, environment.
  • Establishes written treatment goals and identifies problem areas within the scope of physiotherapy and analysing problems.
  • Determines treatment approach to facilitate the achievement of therapeutic goals.
  • Establishes a treatment plan in conjunction with the client, family/caregiver in order to ensure that the client's/family's/caregiver's goals are addressed.
  • Negotiates and establishes overall client goals with client, family and other members of the treatment team as well as the agreement regarding the treatment plan with the family.
  • Provides direct and indirect client care in accordance with the treatment plan by using group and individual settings to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Makes internal referrals to other Grandview Kids services and making recommendations to other agencies (with physician's and parent's/caregiver’s approval) when appropriate.
  • Conducts home visits when required to evaluate the environment and make recommendations for changes to improve client independence and safety within the home.
  • Prescribes and assists in obtaining needed equipment and/or assistive devices.
  • Assists in integrating the client into the community with available resources.
  • Works closely with and teaching family/caregiver to assist in carryover of new skills into the home setting and community.
  • Ensures appropriate documentation is in place related to parental consent for agencies to communicate.
  • Develops programs and teaching materials to meet the needs of various groups of clients and providing home activity programs and follow-up recommendations to maintain the client's maximum level of function.
  • Evaluates the outcome of physiotherapy intervention on identified problems through ongoing reassessment using objective and subjective tools, observation and feedback from client, family and other health care professionals.
  • Completes a written report of assessment findings, recommendations and treatment plan for inclusion in the health record.
  • Provides on the job training, in accordance with the Therapy Assistant job description and delegating and supervising routine aspects of individual and group therapy programs to Therapy Assistant

Benefits

  • Salary Range - $36.75 to $46.40 per hour, depending upon experience
