About The Position

The John Carroll School, a Catholic, independent, college-preparatory, coeducational high school established in 1964 and located on 72 acres in Bel Air, Maryland, is currently seeking a full-time, 10-month Science teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The John Carroll School seeks a qualified Science teacher for full-time employment. Candidates should possess a passion for teaching and be able to collaborate with colleagues to ensure that different sections of the same course progress at the same pace. Successful candidates will have a proven record of teaching physics to high school students and the ability to differentiate instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to provide continuity by promoting student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills through instruction. It is important to create a safe and optimal learning environment in which student progress is documented, individual needs are addressed, and effective communication with students, parents, administration, faculty, and staff is maintained. As a representative of The John Carroll School, the employee is expected to support and carry out the school’s Catholic mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Previous teaching or student teaching experience required
  • Proficiency in the use of classroom technology.
  • Proven ability to engage students in meaningful lessons and assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Employment is contingent upon satisfactory state and federal background checks, a driving record check, completion of VIRTUS training, and completion of all required employment paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rigorous college-preparatory instruction while upholding the values and ideals of the school’s Catholic identity.
  • Provide a grade-appropriate instructional program in accordance with the curriculum; effective instruction will include differentiated learning.
  • Participate in faculty, curriculum, and team meetings, school committees, and professional development as needed.
  • Provide technology-enhanced instruction that leads to deeper understanding and real-world application.
  • Perform assigned duties supervising students, such as advisory and class coverage duties.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs.
  • Prepare daily and weekly lesson plans.
  • Maintain an attractive, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Meet with students for extra help during free periods and before/after school.
  • Support the school through attendance at evening and weekend events as necessary, including admissions, athletics, club events, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Chaperone a minimum of four extracurricular activities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Accurately report grades and attendance and uphold the student code of conduct.
