About The Position

The John Carroll School seeks a qualified Director of Learning Support Services for full-time employment. The Director will oversee the multiple tiers of learning support services at John Carroll. It is essential to create a safe and optimal learning environment in which student progress is documented, individual student needs are addressed, and effective communication among students, parents, administration, faculty, and staff is maintained. As a representative of The John Carroll School, the employee is expected to support and carry out the school’s Catholic mission.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field required; terminal degree preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience with neurodiverse students required.
  • Must possess a student-centered, strengths-based mindset.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, including students, current and prospective parents, teachers, and administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively collaborate with teachers to implement best practices for students with learning differences, including planning and consultation regarding assignments and assessments.
  • Support teachers by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to help meet the needs of all learners.
  • Evaluate and create Individual Accommodation Plans using data from clinical neuropsychological assessments.
  • Monitor student accommodations and intervention plans.
  • Review admission files, collaborate with the admissions team, and meet with new families whose students have been identified as needing support.
  • Ensure that accommodations and services are implemented in the classroom.
  • Coordinate the Summer Enrichment Program.
  • Maintain detailed records of internal and external communication and confidential student documentation.
  • Facilitate Student Support Meetings for at-risk students.
  • Coordinate incoming student intake meetings with college counselors to review four-year course schedules and Individual Accommodation Plans.
  • Partner with local public schools for students who have service plans.
  • Plan and implement parent education initiatives around instructional programs and student support.
  • Oversee and support both the Auxiliary and Accommodations Testing Rooms.
  • Organize and coordinate testing accommodations for students with Individual Accommodation Plans.
  • Help develop and design professional development opportunities for learning specialists and staff.
  • Oversee and support the St. Joseph Learning Specialists and the Academic Support Program Coordinator.
  • Evaluate the individual academic needs of each student referenced in their Individual Accommodation Plan to determine appropriate interventions.
  • Proactively monitor students’ academic progress and develop academic success plans.
  • Promote an educational atmosphere that fosters a joy for learning, a growth mindset, and a positive school culture.
  • Develop strong relationships with students, teachers, administration, and parents, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Participate in faculty, curriculum, and team meetings, school committees, and professional development as needed.
  • Support the school through attendance at evening and weekend events as necessary, including admissions, athletics, club events, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Chaperone a minimum of four extracurricular activities.
  • Perform assigned supervisory duties, such as advisory.
