About The Position

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for accomplished physics researchers experienced in advanced scientific reasoning, research evaluation, analytical problem design, numerical modeling, experimental analysis, and frontier-level physics research. This role supports a remote research collaboration focused on improving how advanced AI systems reason across theoretical and applied physics. Selected professionals will apply their research expertise to evaluate scientific literature, develop challenging physics problems, assess technical outputs, identify subtle reasoning failures, and contribute to high-quality scientific evaluation workflows.

Requirements

  • Strong candidates may have: Current or recent experience as a PhD candidate, postdoctoral researcher, instructor, faculty member, principal scientist, or industry researcher
  • An active research record in physics or a closely related quantitative field
  • Strong publication history, including first-author or co-first-author research where applicable
  • Ability to evaluate advanced physics work at the level of a practicing researcher
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and written communication skills
  • Experience identifying subtle scientific errors that may be missed through textbook-level review
  • Availability to contribute up to 20 hours per week depending on project scope
  • Current location in the United States
  • A doctorate, current doctoral study, or postdoctoral training in physics or a closely related STEM field is highly relevant
  • Research backgrounds in theoretical physics, condensed matter, quantum information, particle physics, high-energy theory, astrophysics, cosmology, AMO physics, plasma physics, biophysics, statistical physics, computational physics, or mathematical physics may be especially valuable
  • Outstanding senior PhD candidates and recent graduates with strong publication records are encouraged to apply

Nice To Haves

  • First-author or co-first-author publications in highly regarded physics or multidisciplinary scientific journals
  • Competitive research fellowships, early-career awards, or major academic distinctions
  • Experience holding research grants as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator
  • Issued patents, scientific commercialization experience, or involvement in a research spin-out
  • International Physics Olympiad recognition or comparable academic achievement
  • Experience with computational physics, simulation, symbolic derivation, numerical methods, or scientific programming
  • Previous experience reviewing research manuscripts, grant proposals, technical assessments, or advanced scientific benchmarks

Responsibilities

  • Review physics research papers for technical correctness, novelty, significance, and methodological quality
  • Assess theoretical arguments, analytical derivations, numerical results, and experimental interpretations
  • Evaluate whether scientific claims are adequately supported by evidence and established physical principles
  • Identify subtle conceptual, mathematical, or methodological issues that require researcher-level expertise
  • Author and review challenging physics problems for advanced scientific reasoning and evaluation workflows
  • Develop tasks involving analytical derivation, mechanism prediction, numerical modeling, literature reasoning, and experimental design
  • Calibrate problem difficulty, expected solutions, and evaluation criteria against graduate and research-level standards
  • Produce clear reference explanations, solution pathways, and technical assessment guidance
  • Evaluate technical outputs across theoretical physics, condensed matter, quantum information, particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology, and related fields
  • Identify reasoning failures, unsupported assumptions, mathematical inconsistencies, and physically implausible conclusions
  • Assess outputs involving computational methods, experimental proposals, literature synthesis, and complex derivations
  • Document evaluation decisions clearly and support conclusions with rigorous scientific reasoning

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly compensation
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Part-time W-2 contingent employment arrangement
  • Fully remote work
