About The Position

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for accomplished mathematics researchers experienced in advanced mathematical reasoning, proof evaluation, problem design, formalization, conjecture exploration, and frontier-level research. This role supports a remote research collaboration focused on improving how advanced AI systems reason across pure and applied mathematics. Selected professionals will apply their research expertise to evaluate mathematical literature, develop challenging problems, assess proofs and technical outputs, identify subtle logical errors, and contribute to high-quality mathematical evaluation workflows.

Requirements

  • Strong candidates may have: Current or recent experience as a PhD candidate, postdoctoral researcher, instructor, faculty member, principal researcher, or industry research mathematician
  • An active research record in mathematics or a closely related quantitative field
  • Strong publication history, including first-author or sole-author work where applicable
  • Ability to evaluate advanced mathematical work at the level of a practicing research mathematician
  • Strong proof-writing, analytical reasoning, and technical communication skills
  • Experience identifying subtle logical or formal errors that may be missed through textbook-level review
  • Availability to contribute up to 20 hours per week depending on project scope
  • Current location in the United States
  • A doctorate, current doctoral study, or postdoctoral training in mathematics or a closely related STEM field is highly relevant
  • Research backgrounds in number theory, algebra, algebraic geometry, topology, analysis, partial differential equations, probability, combinatorics, dynamical systems, logic, representation theory, mathematical physics, statistics, or theoretical computer science may be especially valuable
  • Outstanding senior PhD candidates and recent graduates with strong publication records are encouraged to apply
  • The depth, quality, and relevance of research output will be considered alongside academic seniority

Nice To Haves

  • First-author or sole-author publications in highly regarded mathematics, statistics, or theoretical computer science venues
  • Competitive fellowships, research honors, early-career awards, or major academic distinctions
  • Experience holding research grants as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator
  • Recognition through mathematics competitions, Olympiad participation, or comparable academic achievement
  • Experience with formal proof systems, theorem provers, symbolic computation, or mathematical software
  • Familiarity with Lean, Coq, Isabelle, HOL, Mathematica, SageMath, or comparable formalization and computational tools
  • Previous experience reviewing research manuscripts, grant proposals, advanced proofs, or mathematical benchmarks

Responsibilities

  • Review mathematics research papers for correctness, novelty, rigor, and technical significance
  • Assess definitions, hypotheses, lemmas, proofs, constructions, and mathematical arguments
  • Evaluate whether conclusions follow logically from stated assumptions and established results
  • Identify subtle gaps, unjustified steps, misapplied hypotheses, or plausible but incorrect arguments
  • Author and review challenging mathematics problems for advanced reasoning and evaluation workflows
  • Develop tasks involving proof construction, proof verification, formalization, problem-solving, and conjecture exploration
  • Calibrate problem difficulty, expected solutions, and evaluation criteria against graduate and research-level standards
  • Produce clear reference solutions, proof outlines, and technical assessment guidance
  • Evaluate technical outputs across pure mathematics, applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, statistics, and related fields
  • Assess mathematical reasoning for logical consistency, rigor, completeness, and appropriate use of assumptions
  • Identify hand-waved lemmas, invalid generalizations, circular arguments, hidden edge cases, and formalization errors
  • Document evaluation decisions clearly and support conclusions with rigorous mathematical reasoning

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly compensation
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Remote work
