About The Position

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is seeking a full-time Physician (Radiologist Diagnostic) who is skilled at or recently completed a Fellowship in Neuroimaging interpretation. This role is committed to quality patient care, teaching, and research related to all functions of Radiology. The position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program, with potential awards up to $200,000 over one to five years, subject to specific eligibility requirements and application approval. The incumbent will be responsible for functions within the scope of care of the Radiology Service, including clinical and administrative management. This involves interpreting radiological examinations, diagnosing patient conditions, initiating and modifying treatment plans, managing patient care with confidentiality, consulting with other specialties, and maintaining accurate medical records. Additional responsibilities include shared call and weekend coverage, resident and technologist education, protocoling radiology studies, participation in peer review and quality management activities, and serving on SAVAHCS committees like the multidisciplinary tumor board.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine, obtained from an approved school.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certified or eligible in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Significant experience with Neuro Imaging or recently completed a Neuroradiology fellowship.
  • Ability to perform Neuroradiologic procedures such as lumbar punctures and myelograms is preferred.
  • Possessing the capability to interpret examinations related to multiple specialties is preferred, as well as the ability to interpret radiographs and perform fluoroscopic exams.
  • Provide teaching and training for residents/fellows.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret radiological examinations using appropriate clinical, laboratory, and other pertinent data, providing follow-up as indicated.
  • Accurately interpret and evaluate radiological data for diagnosis and clinical status, correcting diagnoses when necessary.
  • Initiate appropriate and timely interpretations and modify treatment plans based on changes in patient behavior, symptoms, signs, and other pertinent facts.
  • Recognize own capabilities and limitations.
  • Maintain patient and relative confidentiality through competence and interpersonal skills.
  • Act as a consultant in involving patients in the treatment and management plan.
  • Act as a consultant for the Radiology Section in developing, implementing, and evaluating diagnosis and treatment of patients.
  • Recognize the need for consultation to other facility specialty areas.
  • Promptly and completely report physical examinations and changes in patient status.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and current clinical records.
  • Complete medical records per hospital regulations.
  • Shared call and weekend coverage.
  • Resident and technologist education.
  • Review of pre-procedure labs and protocolling of radiology studies.
  • Participation in peer review process.
  • Quality management activities such as peer review, study/film quality.
  • Participation in SAVAHCS committees such as the multidisciplinary tumor board.
