About The Position

Benefis is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Physiatrist interested in medical directorship to join their Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation team. This is primarily an inpatient role with occasional outpatient services, offering flexibility based on interests. The role is within a well-established, financially stable, and independent health system in Montana. The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is a 20-bed acute rehab unit with common diagnoses including Stroke, TBI, SCI, orthopedic injuries, LE amputation, cardiac/pulmonary DEB, Guillain-Barré, and complex medical conditions. The average census is 12 patients with 2-3 admissions/discharges daily (Monday-Friday). Call burden is rare, limited to potential admissions when covering. Medical coverage is provided Monday-Sunday by dedicated NP hospitalists. The unit has robust multidisciplinary rehab staffing, including a rehab APP, 16 therapists, and 24/7 nursing. Interdisciplinary Team Conferences are held three times per week. For those interested in outpatient services, there is a strong referral base and flexible clinic hours. The role offers the opportunity to pursue clinical interests such as TBI, Stroke, Spasticity Management, Amputee Care, Migraine/Headache Botox, Baclofen Intrathecal Pump Evaluations and Refills, Joint Injections, EMGs, Subacute, MSK, and medical-legal cases. Onsite access to physical, occupational, and speech therapy is available, including a therapy garden, home training, and recreational outings. For those with EMG interest, there are 3 machines and opportunities for ~24 outpatient EMGs/week with dedicated neuro techs. Providers perform their own nerve conduction studies, with certified tech support available upon request. Diagnoses include radiculopathy, compression neuropathies, myopathy, and motor neuron disease.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical direction for the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation program.
  • Manage inpatient rehabilitation cases, including Stroke, TBI, SCI, orthopedic injuries, LE amputation, cardiac/pulmonary DEB, Guillain-Barré, and complex medical conditions.
  • Conduct occasional outpatient services, with flexibility based on interests.
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Team Conferences held three times per week.
  • Pursue clinical interests including TBI, Stroke, Spasticity Management, Amputee Care, Migraine/Headache Botox, Baclofen Intrathecal Pump Evaluations and Refills, Joint Injections, EMGs, Subacute, MSK, and medical-legal cases.
  • Perform EMGs and nerve conduction studies if interested.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary rehab team including APPs, therapists, and nursing staff.
