About The Position

PrimeCare Medical, Inc. (PCM), a private, physician-founded, nationally accredited correctional health care practice operating since 1986, provides comprehensive medical and mental health services to correctional facilities. PCM is hiring a full-time Physician Medical Director to provide on-site services at facilities in Maryland: Jennifer Road Detention Center in Annapolis, Ordnance Road Detention Center in Glen Burnie, Kent County Detention Center in Chestertown, and Cecil County Detention Center in Elkton. The role offers the opportunity to provide care to an underserved, diverse patient population in a setting that combines aspects of primary care, urgent care, emergency medicine, and addiction medicine. The schedule is Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with an option to work four days per week. A vehicle stipend is provided for travel. The Physician Medical Director provides and oversees clinical care for the inmate/patient population, manages the facility medical health program in accordance with applicable standards and PCM policies, supervises physicians and medical staff, and coordinates care and consultations with other professionals.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine.
Licensed to practice medicine in Maryland.
Board certified or board eligible.
Maintain current DEA registration.
Maintain active BLS (CPR) certification.
Maintain a current driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Specialty training in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Correctional Medicine, and/or Urgent Care is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide services to the inmate/patient population using current, acceptable standards of medical practice.
Assume responsibility for clinical management of the medical health program in accordance with NCCHC/ACA Standards and PCM policies and procedures.
Provide services on scheduled workdays at times mutually agreeable to the physician, facility administration, and PCM.
Provide medical treatment to confined inmates/patients when applicable.
Provide medical consultation to physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, and other professionals within the unit.
Oversee and supervise all medical clinical services provided.
Ensure complete, accurate, and timely medical entries for each inmate/patient contact.
Be available by phone for consultation and/or emergency medical coverage.
Collaborate with and supervise the clinical activities of fellow physicians and medical staff while on duty.
Evaluate inmates/patients referred for medical health concerns for the presence or absence of mental illness and refer them to mental health services as appropriate.
Refer inmates/patients to appropriate medical facilities when necessary.
Work with the pharmacy to evaluate and approve medications and other medicinal preparations that make up the facility formulary.
Establish and monitor standards of care provided by physicians, psychologists, and nurses in accordance with NCCHC/ACA and accepted medical standards.
