About The Position

Ochsner Health is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Gastrointestinal Medical Oncologist Physician to join the Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Institute. This is a subspecialized practice focusing on cancers of the GI tract, including gastro-esophageal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, neuroendocrine, anal, and colorectal malignancies. The position offers opportunities for both an academic track with protected research time and a traditional clinically-focused role. The physician will be involved in the education and training of hematology/oncology fellows and may have opportunities for academic and/or department leadership development. Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center is a partner of MD Anderson Cancer Center, providing care based on the same protocols and practice standards as MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, and benefiting from integration with its clinicians and researchers. The role involves inpatient and outpatient patient care, with opportunities to participate in or develop clinical research studies, teach fellows and residents, and contribute to program development. Subspecialty interest is encouraged but not required for consideration for the New Orleans Main Campus positions. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in hematology and oncology. Ochsner is the leading clinical oncology program in the Gulf South Region, with a strong focus on cancer research and clinical trials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subspecialized medical oncology care for GI tract cancers, including gastro-esophageal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, neuroendocrine, anal, and colorectal malignancies.
  • Participate in weekly GI cancer tumor boards for subspecialized care planning.
  • Engage with a robust clinical trial portfolio from phase 1 to phase 3, with opportunities to be a principal investigator and sub-investigator on studies.
  • Be involved in the education and training of hematology/oncology fellows at Ochsner.
  • Contribute to the development of the program.
  • Conduct inpatient and outpatient patient care.
  • Participate in or develop clinical research studies.
  • Teach fellows and residents.
