About The Position

Sanford Clinic Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Family Medicine Physician with a Sports Medicine Fellowship to join a team of four family medicine/sports trained physicians. This role involves providing a portal for new patients for initial evaluations to determine the orthopedic pathway and appropriate care/treatment, as well as seeing patients for ongoing non-operative care and follow-up. The physician will see patients aged 14 to Geriatric with needs in general orthopedics, joint issues, hand, sports injuries, or shoulder & elbow conditions. The practice is located in a state-of-the-art orthopedic facility that houses various medical specialists and services, including radiology and therapy.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of a residency or fellowship program in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Successful completion of a fellowship in Sports Medicine accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Applicants who are not board certified or obtained a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification or CAQ within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless such requirement is waived by the appropriate governing Board.
  • Demonstrate clinical involvement in at least 25 sport medicine cases in the last 12 months.
  • If not applying directly out of a fellowship, provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • If a quality profile is not available, documentation of the applicant’s clinical activity for the past 12 months is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Training at residency or fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada may be considered by the Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors.
  • Those applicants who are not board certified or obtained a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification or CAQ within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless such requirement is waived by the appropriate governing Board.

  • Perform history and physical examination.
  • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide consultation and continuous care to patients of all ages for the enhancement of health and fitness.
  • Prevent common sports injuries and illnesses.
  • Provide ongoing non-operative care and follow-up for patients.
  • Determine the orthopedic pathway and appropriate approach to care/treatment for new patients.
