About The Position

In this role, you will own the path for athletes to return to their sport. You will diagnose with precision, treat with judgment, and return people to play only when the evidence says they are ready. Your decisions will protect careers, seasons, and long-term joint health. You will practice within a multidisciplinary sports medicine setting alongside athletic trainers, physical therapists, and orthopedic colleagues. Diagnostic imaging, procedure support, and electronic records are in place. You will set clinical priorities for your panel and event coverage, with administrative support for scheduling and referrals. You will report to the medical director and partner daily with training-room staff.

Requirements

  • MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in a primary specialty and completed sports medicine fellowship, or equivalent sports medicine certification.
  • Active medical license and ability to obtain privileges for the sites and events you cover.
  • Demonstrated return-to-play decision-making across acute, overuse, and concussion cases.
  • Competence in common sports medicine procedures used in your practice setting.
  • Clear communication with athletes, families, and coaches under time pressure.
  • Current certification in emergency response appropriate to sideline coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Restore athletes to safe, sport-specific participation by completing timely evaluations and individualized return-to-play plans.
  • Reduce reinjury by matching diagnosis, imaging, and treatment to mechanism of injury and sport demands.
  • Cut time lost to preventable setbacks through early intervention, load management, and coordinated rehab milestones.
  • Lead sideline and event coverage so acute injuries are triaged, stabilized, and dispositioned without delay.
  • Align physicians, athletic trainers, and physical therapists on one plan so care does not fragment between visits.
  • Improve concussion and overuse outcomes by applying current protocols and documenting clearance criteria.
  • Build referring-coach and team trust so complex cases reach you before they become season-ending.
