About The Position

The Whiteriver Indian Hospital, a Joint Commission accredited 40-bed facility, is seeking an Emergency Physician to provide comprehensive medical care to adult and pediatric patients within the Emergency Department. This role involves managing a full spectrum of cases, including critical and complex situations, requiring immediate decision-making. The physician will conduct patient interviews and examinations, order diagnostic tests, make diagnoses, prescribe treatment, and arrange for specialized care or referrals when necessary. Additionally, Emergency Department physicians are responsible for managing patients on the inpatient hospital ward overnight (1700-0700), admitting appropriate patients, and overseeing their care. The physician will also coordinate and integrate patient information into the ongoing Health Care Program and ensure timely follow-up care. The hospital serves approximately 17,000 tribal members and other Native American communities on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.

Requirements

Completed a residency in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or another residency with 1.5 years of Emergency Medicine experience.
Hold a current, valid, unrestricted license from any state.
Be board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine, OR have 1.5 years of experience in emergency medicine.
Current certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS.

Responsibilities

Serve as a Medical Officer performing Ambulatory Medical Treatment for emergency, surgical, and medical care services.
Provide comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services for adult and pediatric patients.
Handle the full range of cases and problems in the ER, including very difficult and complex cases that are sometimes critical and require immediate decisions.
Interview and examine patients seeking emergency care.
Review past medical history and request/perform diagnostic tests and examinations.
Make preliminary diagnoses, direct, prescribe or provide treatment, or arrange for specialized care or patient referral.
Base medical decisions upon information obtained and professional medical knowledge and skills.
Manage patients on the inpatient hospital ward overnight, from 1700-0700.
Receive admitting privileges, admit appropriate patients to the inpatient ward overnight, and manage all patients on the hospital ward as needed.
Refer patients to appropriate medical facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided at WRSU.
Coordinate and integrate information obtained into the ongoing Health Care Program at the Service Unit and ensure timely follow-up care as required.
