About The Position

The VA North Texas Health Care System is recruiting a Dermatologist to provide care at the Dallas VA Medical Center, Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic, and Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Centers. The physician performs consultations for acute inpatient medical and surgical units and receives, reviews, and acts on consults and e-consults. The role includes evaluating, diagnosing, and treating conditions affecting the skin, mucous membranes, hair, and nails. Clinical services may include history and physical examinations, occult blood testing, treatment planning, KOH smears, biopsies, cryotherapy, excision and electro-desiccation of skin lesions, and skin grafts and flaps. The physician researches, diagnoses, and treats skin disorders and diseases, may perform minor skin surgeries, and prescribes topical medications. Treatment and procedure choices take into account the type and characteristics of a growth or tumor, its location and extent, the patient’s general health, potential benefits and risks, and the physician’s experience with the procedure. The dermatologist evaluates patients and obtains appropriate clinical, laboratory, and other relevant data; prescribes timely treatment and modifies plans as indicated by changes in a patient’s condition. The physician recognizes personal capabilities and limitations, responds promptly to emergencies, and consults or uses specialty skills when needed. The role includes timely responses to inpatient and outpatient consultations, documentation of consultation findings, and collaboration with primary teams and clinicians on patient care. The physician maintains accurate, current clinical records, including histories, examinations, progress notes, orders, and treatment plans, and uses the Computerized Patient Record System. All progress notes and orders must be completed and signed daily. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized for highly qualified individuals. Relocation assistance is not authorized. The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, subject to program requirements and application within four months of appointment. The role has no physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
