About The Position

The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) improves the quality of patient care and helps prepare nurses to thrive in the health care system. The CNL applies outcome-based practice and quality improvement, coordinates care for a distinct group of patients, and provides direct care in complex situations. The role collaborates with the Nurse Manager and frontline staff to assess nursing staff clinical expertise and practice. This master's-prepared clinician applies evidence-based practice so patients benefit from current care-delivery innovations. The CNL also works with management and the Shared Governance Structure to address care and culture disparities between units, and evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Program- or service-level outcomes must be broad and complex and may be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility. The position collaborates in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising policies, procedures, and guidelines; provides peers with constructive feedback; organizes and leads care delivery to support continuity, access to care, discharge planning, and peer accountability; functions as an expert in clinical practice or assigned areas of responsibility; and uses professional standards, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and service activities. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), subject to VHA eligibility requirements and application review. Approved awards may be up to $200,000, with an eligibility period of one to five years. Former EDRP participants are ineligible. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. The position is permanent, is not virtual, and does not offer telework. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 0800–1630.
