About The Position

The Department of Colon & Rectal Surgery at Ochsner Health is seeking a full-time board-certified/board-eligible colon and rectal surgeon to join its faculty in New Orleans, LA. The successful candidate will be a motivated, fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon with experience in complex open surgery, laparoscopy, and robotic surgery. Ochsner Health is the leading nonprofit healthcare provider in the Gulf South, delivering expert care at its 46 hospitals and more than 370 health and urgent care centers throughout the region. The Department Colon & Rectal Surgery is currently made up of 7 surgeons at Ochsner Medical Center, Ochsner Health’s flagship facility. The department houses one of the longest-established colon & rectal surgery training programs in the country, training 2 clinical fellows and 1 research fellow each year. Members of the department also participate in the education of general surgery residents at Ochsner Health as well as medical students from the University of Queensland/Ochsner Clinical School. Additionally, a partnership was recently announced with Xavier University in New Orleans to establish the Xavier-Ochsner College of Medicine. This will be the only HCBU-affiliated medical school in the Gulf South, aiming to admit its inaugural class in 2026. The department also has an active division of research, with a dedicated research director and two full- time research coordinators. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional surgical skills and clinical judgment, and a willingness to build a robust colon and rectal surgical practice. Effective communication skills and a record of team building are essential. The department will provide opportunities and mentorship to develop the candidate’s academic and professional potential. Salary and academic appointment will be commensurate the training and experience.
