About The Position
Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is seeking an experienced Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon with a minimum of five years of post-training experience to join its established cardiothoracic surgery program at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Summit Campus, in Oakland, California. This is an opportunity to join an established regional referral center and help shape the future of cardiothoracic care within one of Northern California's leading physician-led healthcare organizations. The practice offers a collegial and collaborative environment with strong multidisciplinary partnerships, approximately 50% adult cardiac surgery and 50% thoracic surgery, and a 1:3 call schedule. SWBMG is a physician-owned and physician-led medical group with the operational and administrative support of Sutter Health, offering opportunities to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement, and program development.
Requirements
- Current Board Certification by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery required
- Minimum five years of post-training experience
- Expertise in adult cardiac surgery, including coronary, valvular, and aortic procedures
- Expertise in thoracic surgery, including lung resection and general thoracic procedures
- Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care within a multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical care across adult cardiac and thoracic surgery (50% adult cardiac surgery and 50% thoracic surgery)
- Perform coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, complex aortic procedures, and lung surgery
- Manage acute and chronic aortic syndromes, including aortic dissections
- Collaborate closely with interventional cardiology, advanced heart failure, structural heart, cardiovascular imaging, and pulmonology teams
