About The Position

The Physician Assistant (Primary Care) provides full-time direct patient care as part of an expanded healthcare team serving a population of Veterans in a group-practice setting. The role uses the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model and emphasizes evidence-based medicine, primary and secondary prevention, computerized medical records, and continuous quality improvement based on individualized provider data. The Orange Team cares for a panel of approximately 900 patients and includes a provider, RN, LPN or medical assistant, and scheduler. The broader Orange Team group has about six teams comprising physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. The Physician Assistant provides outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients, working collaboratively with other clinicians and support staff. The position may occasionally require working alone, with assistance available from other medical staff and emergency, surgical, psychiatric, and medical subspecialty services. Patients needing inpatient admission are transferred to the admitting house staff team. A supervising physician reviews and countersigns at least 10% of progress notes. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Telework and virtual work are not available. Relocation or recruitment incentives may be authorized for highly qualified candidates; permanent change of station is not authorized. The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, subject to program eligibility and application requirements.
