The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. This role provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting. The PA performs complete histories and physical examinations, orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests, and develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on findings. The PA also orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures, and consistently provides high quality and timely documentation. Specifically, this role performs cardiac procedures in the cath lab, functioning as first assist and independently. Procedures are performed in a high volume, fast-paced cath lab at MGH. The PA works collaboratively and in a coordinated fashion with Interventional Cardiologists, Cardiac Fellows, and Other PAs in the section to meet patient needs. In addition to first assist and independent procedures, the APP will be involved in pre-procedural evaluations, consenting, and post-procedure care.
