The Physician Assistant provides medical and surgical services in an assigned gastroenterology specialty clinic and inpatient setting under physician direction, consistent with the PA’s current Practice Description approved by the State of Oregon Board of Medical Examiners. The role involves assessing and treating patients, coordinating care with physicians and other specialists, and maintaining clinical documentation and billing records. In inpatient care, the PA rounds on service patients, conducts examinations, writes orders and daily notes, orders and interprets laboratory and radiological studies, recognizes urgent conditions, and initiates emergency treatment when necessary. The PA also assists with surgical procedures and performs minor surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures, treatments, and medication administration within the approved Practice Description. In outpatient care, the PA evaluates patients, coordinates discharge and follow-up planning, arranges subspecialty care, communicates with primary care providers, oversees medications, and manages patient phone contacts and related requests. The PA documents and bills for services, completes medical records and charge information, and participates in continuing medical education and clinical meetings.
