About The Position

The Physician Assistant provides clinical services to assist physicians within their specific scope of expertise. Makes diagnoses and treatments for patients using independent judgment. Assists and instructs students in clinical research. Provides clinical services for the Student Health Center and University Medical Center clinics. Uses independent decision making in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Assists physicians within their specific scope of expertise. Works to improve efficiency, organization, and patient/clinic flow. Assists with day-to-day operations, resolves issues, and contributes to the improvement of quality of care, as well as patient and provider satisfaction. Follows all established clinical procedures and workflows for patient care and communication, privacy/security, and other regulatory requirements. Partners with the enterprise services division of the college, including Health Informatics, Medical Billing, Medical Records and others to ensure patient billing and documentation are complete and accurate.

Requirements

  • Physician Assistant (PA) License in the State of Alabama in good standing.
  • Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate (ACSC) and United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License or qualified to apply for one.
  • Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • Ability to perform patient care as directed by a physician or other qualified medical professional.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record systems.
  • Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills.
  • Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with student patients, faculty, staff and other health care professionals.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and follow FERPA/HIPAA regulations at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of broad or specialized professional experience as a Physician Assistant.
  • Prior experience as a member of a treatment team in a primary care ambulatory environment.
  • Experience supervising clinical operations and staff.
