The Physician Assistant will perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing emergency medical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and service for quality patient care. This role involves recording data and tentative conclusions for review by a physician, coordinating and scheduling laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures, and explaining the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. The Physician Assistant will carry out complex patient care services under indirect physician supervision using advanced medical knowledge, monitor patient progress, maintain records, and consult with the supervising physician when patient progress does not meet anticipated criteria. Additionally, this role involves planning and scheduling work for the physician's health team, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space, and facilities. The Physician Assistant will participate in basic science and clinical research projects, prepare statistical reports and analyses, and teach students, residents, and interns complex techniques and procedures unique to Emergency Medicine. Ensuring complete and accurate documentation in the medical record of assessment and plan of care, participating in continuing education in emergency/urgent care, and staying up-to-date with department and hospital policies and guidelines are also key responsibilities. The role also ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
