We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Physician Assistant to support our Total Joint Surgeon. This role includes serving as first assist in the Operating Room 1–2 days per week (7:00 AM–3:30 PM) and providing outpatient clinical support 3–4 days per week (8:00 AM–4:00 PM). Our Orthopedic Surgery team practices across multiple locations, including MGB Tuscan Village in Salem, NH; Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, MA; and Merrimack Health in Methuen, MA. This Physician Assistant will also see patients in our clinic locations in Haverhill, MA and North Andover, MA. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for: • Providing care to orthopedic patients in the outpatient setting, including collaborating with the supervising surgeon in clinic; ordering and reviewing imaging; and performing comprehensive histories and physical examinations for new, established, preoperative, and postoperative patients • Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating laboratory and diagnostic tests • Developing treatment plans and follow-up recommendations based on diagnostic results, clinical findings, and patient needs • Coordinating care throughout the patient’s surgical journey, including preoperative preparation, postoperative follow-up, and recovery/rehabilitation • Optimizing patients for surgery and serving as first assist in the OR, including assisting with wound closure and supporting case flow through tasks such as postoperative orders and case preparation • Rounding on and discharging the surgeon’s inpatients, as well as managing inpatient consults • Prescribing medications, including narcotics, in accordance with organizational, state, and federal policies and regulations • Initiating consultations and referrals as appropriate • Assessing postoperative wounds and managing related needs such as durable medical equipment (DME), physical therapy prescriptions, and medication refills • Evaluating new elective referrals and follow-up patients from the Emergency Department or Orthopedic Injury Clinic • Managing a high volume of patient calls, Patient Gateway messages, emails, and outpatient clinical forms, including FMLA, disability, and hardship documentation • Completing timely, high-quality documentation for clinic visits, admission and progress notes, procedure notes, and patient communications • Providing patient and family education Summary The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.
