About The Position

This full-time Physician Assistant (PA-C) position in Neurosurgery at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, a nationally recognized Level 1 trauma center, offers an opportunity to work in an autonomous environment while collaborating with a highly skilled team. You will provide overnight medical services for complex cases, support treatment plans and follow-up care, and serve as First Assist in the OR when needed. The role involves contributing to coding, billing compliance, and quality initiatives. You will learn from multiple providers and grow your expertise in neurosurgical and neurointerventional care as part of a large, dynamic team including attending physicians, surgical PAs, and neurosurgery residents.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent as a Physician Assistant (required as of January 1, 2018)
  • At least 1 year of Physician Assistant experience in a relevant clinical setting preferred
  • Strong foundation in advanced practice care with a focus on neurosurgery, including pre- and post-operative management, neurocritical care, and trauma-related neurological conditions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced Level 1 trauma center environment.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills for high-acuity patients.
  • Clear and effective communication with patients, families, and the care team, especially in high-stress or time-sensitive scenarios.
  • Willingness to stay current with evolving neurosurgical techniques and trauma protocols, and participate in ongoing education and training.
  • Current NCCPA Certification
  • Active Illinois Physician Assistant License
  • Illinois Controlled Substance License (within 6 months of hire)
  • Eligible for DEA registration; DEA registration required within 6 months of hire (may vary by practice site)
  • Current BLS Certification
  • PALS/ACLS Certification as required by practice site
  • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems

Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight medical services for complex cases, supporting treatment plans and follow-up care.
  • Serve as First Assist in the OR when needed.

  • Work on a rotating schedule designed to balance coverage and flexibility.
  • Manage complex and emergent cases with confidence and precision.
  • Work closely with neurosurgeons, residents, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care across the continuum.
  • Perform rapid assessment and intervention in urgent situations.
