About The Position

TeamHealth is seeking a full-time physician assistant or nurse practitioner to join our emergency department observation unit at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Washington. This is a unique opportunity to practice in a physician-led observation medicine service that is managed by EM physicians and cares for patients placed in hospital observation status directly from the emergency department. The observation unit serves as an extension of the ED, providing focused diagnostic evaluation, treatment, monitoring, and disposition planning for patients who require additional care but do not meet criteria for inpatient admission. The observation unit is staffed with 12 hours of daytime APC coverage and works closely with emergency physicians, consulting specialists, nursing staff, case management, and hospital leadership. APCs function as an integral part of the emergency medicine team while caring for a diverse patient population in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Observation patients include a broad range of medical, surgical, cardiac, neurologic, and trauma-related conditions. Common cases include chest pain evaluations, transient neurologic symptoms, syncope, appendicitis, mild heart failure exacerbations, asthma exacerbations, low-risk trauma, and other conditions requiring short-term observation and treatment. The position includes direct supervision and support from experienced emergency physicians, with 24/7 on-site emergency physician coverage.
