About The Position
Geisinger's Heart Institute is seeking a Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our growing practice at Geisinger Community Medical Center located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Join our collaborative cardiothoracic surgery team and play a key role in guiding patients through every stage of their surgical journey, from initial evaluation to postoperative recovery. Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree-Physician Assistant (Required)
- Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing BodyDefault Issuing Body
- Certified Physician Assistant - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Nice To Haves
- Master's Degree-Physician Assistant (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and prepare patients for cardiothoracic surgery in partnership with cardiac surgeons.
- Coordinate preoperative testing, surgical scheduling, medical clearances, and patient education.
- Manage outpatient referrals and participate in Heart Team discussions for valve and structural heart patients.
- Round on postoperative cardiac surgery patients and assist with ongoing inpatient management.
- Coordinate discharges, follow-up care, and recovery planning.
- Conduct postoperative visits and manage patient questions, phone calls, and portal messages.
