About The Position

Performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for patient admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. Participates in performance improvement, research, and educational activities. The position involves taking patient histories, conducting examinations, coordinating and documenting care plans, performing rounds, ordering and interpreting tests, collaborating with care providers, and supporting patients through discharge and post-discharge instructions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs, ARC-PA) required.
Current New York State license to practice as a Physician Assistant required.
Current NCCPA certification required.
Current BLS certification required.
For the Nurse Practitioner pathway, a master’s degree in a Nurse Practitioner program and national board certification in the specialty area are required.
For the Nurse Practitioner pathway, a current New York State license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner and a current New York State license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse are required.

Responsibilities

Take initial patient histories and perform physical examinations.
Initiate, document, and communicate the plan of care; follow up to ensure complete patient screening and preparation.
Perform daily patient rounds.
Write orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
Interpret laboratory and test results.
Confer with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
Upon discharge, note discharge summaries, prescriptions, and referrals on patient charts.
Inform patients of necessary post-discharge care instructions.
Perform related duties as required.
Participate in performance improvement, research, and educational activities.
