About The Position

Perform both urgent and primary care outpatient visits. Perform medical assessments of both sick or injured patients and routine health maintenance assessments which includes acute/routine physical exams and a variety of women's health assessments. (e.g.: routine gynecologic visits and acute gynecologic problems). Perform medical histories and physical examinations. Order, perform and/or interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests. Formulate a plan of treatment in conjunction with the patient. Perform minor surgical and diagnostic procedures as permitted by the privileging process. Communicate diagnosis and treatment recommendations that are clear for patients to understand. Respond to patients’ questions and encourage patient participation in treatment decisions. Prescribe appropriate, cost-effective medications, including contraception, emergency contraception, and other treatment measures. Consult with supervising physician on plan of care as appropriate. Provide patient education; counsel patient on abnormal findings; educate the patient on possible drug side effects, self-care, preventive measures, and follow-up plans. Determine the need for ER/hospitalization or specialty referrals. Document all pertinent findings, treatment plans and communications with patient in electronic medical record according to Health Center policies and medical standards. Oversee administrative duties which includes but not limited to-Quality Improvement projects, developing and revising EMR note templates and patient educational materials, participating in orientation and educational outreach events, and participation in the Health Center Summer Lecture Series. Participate in continuing education to improve knowledge of college health and satisfy certification and licensure requirements. Contribute in regularly scheduled staff meetings and University committees. Participate in the precepting of PA and Athletic Training students. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Hold a state of Maryland licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Successfully completed an accredited certified physician assistant or nurse practitioner training program.
  • A minimum of one year of clinical experience in urgent care, primary care, inpatient medicine, or an emergency department/emergency room setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in urgent care or health services in a collegiate environment.
  • Technical proficiency in EMR systems (e.g., Point and Click).
  • Demonstrated expertise in procedural skills in I&D, suturing, and cryotherapy.
  • Understanding of women’s health issues specifically in contraceptive management
