About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Radiology team. This role offers a diverse clinical practice with responsibilities across multiple divisions of radiology. The position provides a dynamic environment with opportunities for procedural growth and close collaboration with radiologists and other clinical teams. The PA will have responsibilities in the interventional radiology (IR) pre/post procedural area performing sedation assessments and medically optimizing and managing patients before and after procedures. The PA will have responsibilities in the inpatient IR service performing hospital rounds, hospital consultations, sedation assessments, and drain management. The PA will participate in a rotating weekend schedule performing inpatient IR responsibilities. The PA may also perform various procedures to include but not limited to ultrasound guided paracentesis and thoracentesis, tunneled central venous catheter removals, port removals, gastrostomy tube exchanges, fluoroscopically guided lumbar punctures and intrathecal chemotherapy injections, as well as hip and shoulder injections/aspirations. Procedural responsibilities are expected to expand to include procedures performed under moderate sedation. A comprehensive orientation/training is provided. Minimum of 2 years prior PA experience required to apply. The Physician Assistant performs the following tasks in an authorized setting, such as the clinic or hospital. The Physician Assistant at Mayo Clinic also may perform the following tasks in any authorized setting:

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining patient history
  • Performing physical examinations
  • Performing outpatient consultations
  • Ordering and performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures
  • Formulating a diagnostic impression
  • Developing and implementing a treatment plan
  • Monitoring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
  • Offering counseling and education to meet patient needs
  • Making appropriate referrals
  • Prescribing and dispensing prescription medication in accordance with FL state laws and department policies
  • Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of patient's status and appropriately interprets information relative to patient's age-specific needs.
  • Assist with ongoing departmental process improvement and policy development
  • Other departmental or institutional committee assignments as needed
  • Performing sedation assessments and medically optimizing and managing patients before and after procedures in the interventional radiology (IR) pre/post procedural area.
  • Performing hospital rounds, hospital consultations, sedation assessments, and drain management in the inpatient IR service.
  • Participating in a rotating weekend schedule performing inpatient IR responsibilities.
