About The Position

Bristol Health Medical Group has an opportunity for a Physician Assistant to join the Department of Surgery at Bristol Hospital. Be part of an exceptional team of physician assistants that provide pre-operative, intra-operative, post-operative care of the surgical patient and perform surgical consults in the ER, ICU and medical floors. Clinical services in the department of surgery include general surgery, colorectal surgery, vascular, breast, gynecologic, plastic and thoracic. One or two years caring for patients in a surgical setting is preferred. New graduates with a medical background will be considered.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Physician Associate program required
Certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
Valid Connecticut medical license
Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration
Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification

Nice To Haves

One or two years caring for patients in a surgical setting is preferred.
New graduates with a medical background will be considered.
ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

Document pertinent data on patient charts as required for clinical management.
Evaluate consultation and nursing requests promptly.
Report to Lead Surgical PA/Supervising Physician on a schedule to be mutually agreed upon.
Establish annually a personal development plan with identified goals.
Develop a weekly work schedule in cooperation with the Lead Surgical PA/Supervising Physician.
Perform new procedures in collaboration with Lead Surgical PA/Supervising Physician.
Document clinical care accurately using appropriate EMR software or procedure form.
Undertake advanced procedures as described in the privilege documents.
Demonstrate attentive, proficient skills as observed by Lead Surgical PA/Supervising Physician.
Prepare and maintain patient medical records on Employer and Hospital pre-approved forms or in EMR software consistent with Medical Staff and Joint Commission standards. It is expected that medical record documentation be completed within twenty-four (24) hours of the provision of patient care, in accordance with Employer Hospital standards.
Prepare all reports, claims and correspondence necessary or appropriate in connection with professional services rendered by P.A.
Consult with physicians as appropriate.
Assist in the preparation for and participate in surveys by federal or state regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission.
Actively participates in peer review and quality improvement activities.
Participate in clinical guideline development, care management programs and quality assurance as directed.
Participate and comply with BHMSG and Hospital compliance programs and activities, including participation in any compliance education programs deemed necessary or appropriate by BHMSG or Hospital including but not limited to billing and coding compliance programs.
Comply with all BHMSG and Hospital reimbursement requirements including the timely completion of billing slips and accurate coding of services.
Cooperate and participate in educational programs established by Employer +and the Hospital from time-to-time relating to P.A.’s expertise.
Must utilize CPOE.
Attend and participate in regularly scheduled meetings with other professional members of Employer and the Hospital.
Serve on Hospital and medical staff committees as requested by Employer.
Maintain BLS training, ACLS preferred.
Provide patients with pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative care including wiring orders and first assisting.
Perform pre-op histories and physical and education of the surgical patient.
Coordination of inpatient and outpatient care to optimize patient care and resource utilization.
Coordinate and facilitate the patient’s discharge process.
Provide a pro rata portion of operating room surgical assist call coverage along with the other surgical physician assistants.
