About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) practices in Endocrinology Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The PA provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. The Endocrinology Physician Assistant (PA) is responsible for managing and providing comprehensive healthcare to patients with endocrine disorders. This includes the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic endocrine conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, and other hormonal imbalances. The PA collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship
  • Graduate of a training program which is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of PA (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations.
  • Master's degree in any discipline; OR Bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a PA.
  • Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE).
  • Must possess an active, current, full, and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active and current licensure in that State.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination.
  • Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.
  • Two years of successful practice as a PA (for PA-II grade).
  • Successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency (for PA-II grade).
  • A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (for PA-II grade).
  • Three years of successful practice as a PA (for PA-III grade).
  • Successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency and one year of professional practice as a PA (for PA-III grade).
  • A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and one year of professional practice as a PA (for PA-III grade).

  • Ability to present clinical findings and recommendations to appropriate management officials.
  • Ability to clinically facilitate the delivery of patient care in collaboration with health professionals, health managers, and other health care personnel.
  • Ability to implement and initiate clinical changes to established treatment protocols based upon new medical literature research findings to enhance patient delivery care for improved patient outcomes.
  • Ability to participate clinically in the development of the PA patient care audit processes involving in-depth review and analysis of medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice.
  • Develops and implements and individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
  • Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Initiate referrals and consultations to specialty services.
  • Provides education to patients and their families.
  • Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Completes required documentation, care coordination tasks, consult management, and encounter closure within established timelines.
  • Participates in clinic management activities to improve access, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
  • Complies with all VA performance measures, quality metrics, and national guidelines related to endocrine disorders (e.g., Diabetes Mellitus Quality Indicators).
  • Contributes to policy development, standard operating procedures, and quality-improvement initiatives within the Endocrinology clinic.
